Jonatha Edwards Winery is the southeastern Connecticut winery with the California shine: besides their excellent Estate Connecticut white wines made from their own Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling grapes, they produce excellent premium red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Zinfandel grapes imported from California's Napa Valley. This dual heritage allows the winery to utilize its winemaking capacity most efficiently, and to craft a wider variety of wines for its customers. The winery itself is simply beautiful, a traditional 48-acre New England farm with a California polish to it. It's open for tastings daily except Monday and Tuesday (closed on major holidays). Winery tours start at 3 pm. The winery's location is satisfyingly rural, in hilly farming country, but only a short drive from the stellar attractions of the southeastern Connecticut shoreline, including Guilford, Mystic, Mystic Seaport, Stonington, and the casinos of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.
